LIFE mission trip

It was a successful trip in partnership with CAMA Mission! Read on quickly.

WHAT DID WE DO?

A mission trip to northern Italy together with CAMA Mission!

LIFE Teen Event and CAMA Mission joined forces for the first time this year to organize a mission trip for teens and young adults ages 16 and up. From July 13-20, a group of 12 participants attended a summer camp in Como, Italy.

This camp is organized annually by Sinai, an organization dedicated to helping those in need in the region in which they operate. The vision of the summer camp is to support children in basic needs, teach a correct view of family values, loving your neighbor and ensure healthy physical and spiritual growth. Children of different backgrounds and religions were present at the camp, as were a number of refugee children who are staying there in an asylum seekers’ center.

Together with another group from Holland and two from America, we were able to help with various activities, such as sports, crafts, dancing, singing and English lessons. And in the warmth of the Italian sun, the water games were obviously the favorite of most participants.

In addition to these activities, there was a daily focus on a Biblical theme. The theme this year was “Under Construction,” following Romans 12:2. Each day a tool was taken from the toolbox and explained how this item is used in construction, but also how this is spiritually synonymous with how God works with us and gives us tools to grow in relationship with Him. At the end of the week, the children were asked to bring home a Bible, since in Catholic Italy it is not very common to read from the Bible. Countless children brought home a Bible! Cool to see children opening up during the week, being social (despite the language barrier) and growing in faith.

Unfortunately, a week is also over in no time and it is time to say goodbye. It’s amazing how quickly you can become attached to other people when you spend an entire week together so intensely. Strong is the belief that our presence brought something of eternal value to the children. Furthermore, it is up to God to allow the seeds that have been planted to continue to blossom fully.

It was also a very valuable week for the participants among themselves. When you give out in His name, you yourself receive back in abundance. Participants have grown in faith and further formed as disciples of Jesus and new friendships have been made. All in all, we can speak of a successful mission trip that is worth repeating!
